This light sits in the shipping lane between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. It was there to mark the rocks sitting right below it. The light was originally a lighthouse. Click here to see how the original lighthouse looked back in its day
The light was eventually shortened and a helicopter landing pad placed on to top. Here is a close up after the changes
This picture was taken from the Point Bonita Lighthouse using a 500mm telephoto lens.
Directions: A distant view can be had of this lighthouse from the Point Bonita Lighthouse across the bay. I took my photos using a 500mm lens. A closer view can be had from El Camino Del Mar and Lincoln Park. Coming from Marin across the Golden Gate Bridge, get off at Lincoln Blvd and follow that west. The road will change into El Camino Del Mar. Follow this to Lincoln Park. From here, you will have to walk to the edge of the park, and look over the side.
