History of the Mendota Lighthouse

Dennis Kent visited the lighthouse and sent a writeup and a picture.

This private residence was built in 1895 on a channel that opened a small lake to Lake Superior shipping. It had a 4th order Fresnel. It was decommissioned in 1960 and is visible from across the channel. More info is at www.mendotalighthouse.com.

Note: The lighthouse is private property, please respect this and do not trespass.

Directions: From US-41 in Mandan, follow Mandan Road south to Lac la Belle Road. Make a left onto Lac la Belle Road, and follow that south to Bete Gris Road. Make a left onto Bete Gris Road, and follow that 4.2 miles to the end. From here, you will be able to get some photos from across the channel.
