Dennis Kent has provided some information on this lighthouse.
Next time you are in Michigan, this is a wonderful museum to check out. It is part of the lighthouse complex. Originally built in 1853 it was fitted with 7, fourteen inch Lewis lamps. In 1856 it was updated to a sixth order Fresnel lens with a ten mile range. A fourth order Fresnel lens was installed with a range of 16 miles. It is still a working beacon aid but with a modern light. Marquette was an important harbor for the shipping of raw materials from the UP. Ship traffic on Lake Superior from Minnesota passed by here as well. This shot is from a small bay and nice swimming beach on the north side.
Directions: From Downtown Marquette, follow North Lakeshore Blvd to Coast Guard Road east to the end. More information is available at the web site, http://mqtmaritimemuseum.com
