History of the Little Sable Point Lighthouse

This tower stands 107 feet tall and still houses its original 3rd order Fresnel lens. It is an exact copy of Big Sable Point further to the north with the exception of steel plating. The lighthouse originally had an attached keeper's dwelling that was torn down in the 1950s.

I was lucky the day that I visited as a member of the Coast Guard was there and allowed me to quickly tour the tower. Click the "More Pictures" button below to view them.

Directions: From US-31 in Shelby, make a left on West Shelby Road and follow that for about 6 miles. Then make a right onto County Route B15 (16th Ave) which changes names to S. 16th Ave. Then make a right onto West Buchanan Road and a left onto South 18th Ave. About a mile up the road, make a left onto West Baseline Road, then a right onto an un-named road which leads up to the parking area for Little Sable Point Lighthouse.
