History of the Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Lighthouse

This lighthouse was built to take over duties from the Old Fairport Harbor Main Lighthouse on the shore. Before the keeper moved in, the keeper of the Old Fairport Lighthouse had to take a rowboat out to the lighthouse to service it. This lighthouse is still active today. It stands 42 feet tall and is housed by a 300mm plastic optic which replaced the original 4th-order Fresnel lens.

Directions: Get off Route 2 at Heisley Road (Route 44). On Route 44, follow this to the lake. It will end at Headlands Beach State Park. From here, you can view and photogrpah the lighthouse. Distant views can be had from the Old Fairport Main Lighthouse as well.
